Sofija Balabkina (b. 2004) is a Latvian violinist, chamber musician, orchestral performer, violin teacher, and Davinspiro Camerata musician since 2022.

She is currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Violin Performance at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music in Riga, where she studies with Prof. Terēze Zīberte-Ijaba and Georg Sarkisjan. During the 2026–2027 academic year, she is an Erasmus+ exchange student at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, Hungary.

As an active orchestral musician, Sofija regularly collaborates with leading Latvian ensembles, including the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra and Sinfonietta Rīga. She has also gained experience in studio recordings with Latvian Radio 3 "Klasika".

Sofija performs extensively both in Latvia and internationally. She has appeared in prestigious concert venues such as the Great Guild Hall, Dzintari Concert Hall, the Latvian National Opera House, and Concertgebouw Brugge. Her concert activities have taken her to numerous European countries through orchestral, chamber music, and educational projects.

Alongside her performing career, she has worked as a violin teacher at Emīls Dārziņš Music School since 2023, combining active concert practice with pedagogical work.

Sofija has participated in masterclasses led by internationally renowned musicians, including Gregor Sigl, Frederik Øland, Rainer Schmidt, Martin Funda, Alexey Lundin, Philipp A. Draganov, Evgeny Sinaiski, and Craig Goodman. She was also selected for the RCO Young Project with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra as a member of the first violin section and has taken part in international orchestral projects in Estonia and Hungary.

Her recent achievements include First Prize at the JVLMA Best Student Chamber Ensemble Competition (2026), Second Prize at the 7th Chamber Music Competition organized by the “Riga Brotherhood of Blackheads “and the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music (2026), and First Prize at the Latvian National Competition for String Instruments (2023).
